Packaging machine MTBF and MTTR calculator

Calculate mean time between failures, mean time to repair and inherent availability for a packaging machine or production line.

Production environment relevant to packaging machine mtbf and mttr calculator

What this calculator does

Use a consistent observation period. Enter operating hours, failure count and total repair hours. The calculator shows MTBF, MTTR and inherent availability so reliability and maintainability can be separated.

Your result

Enter the production figures and select Calculate result.

Checks before using the result

  • Define what counts as a failure
  • Use the same asset boundary for all records
  • Separate corrective repair from planned work
  • Record start and restoration times consistently
  • Analyse failure modes rather than only the average
  • Compare trends for the same product and duty
  • Use the result with spare-parts and maintenance evidence

Calculator questions

Questions customers also ask

What is MTBF?

Mean time between failures is operating time divided by the number of qualifying failures in the period.

What is MTTR?

Mean time to repair is total corrective repair time divided by the number of qualifying repairs or failures.

Can high MTBF hide a serious problem?

Yes. Averages can hide rare long failures or repeated minor stops. Review the failure-mode distribution and lost production as well.

Does inherent availability equal OEE?

No. Inherent availability uses MTBF and MTTR and does not include all performance, quality, planned loss or logistics factors included in broader production measures.
